Losing Weight With PCOS

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition characterized by hormonal imbalances, irregular periods, and/or the development of small cysts on one or both ovaries
It can impact majority of women worldwide.
The insulin resistance, inflammation and hormonal imbalances related to this condition make it difficult for women with PCOS to reduce weight and keep it off.
However even a small reduction in weight and body fat composition results in significant improvement in hormone levels, fertility , insulin resistance , regulation of menstrual cycle and wellbeing of women with PCOS.
Here are some tips to aid you in your weight loss with PCOS
Exercise for at least 30 minutes per day on most, if not all, days of the week.
Be patient with your progress
Cut down intake of processed and added sugars
Add more protein to your diet
Improve fiber intake ( helps to lower insulin resistance)
Reduce your carb intake but don't completely eliminate carbs
If you smoke, get involved with a program to help reduce and finally quit smoking
Talk to your GP, they may refer you to a dietitian if you need specific dietary advice
Involve your doctor to track and monitor your cholesterol and blood pressure levels. (As women with PCOS are more likely to have elevated cholesterol levels and blood pressure.)
Try to get enough sleep
Manage your stress levels as this may cause weight gain and insulin resistance
